Jonathan Butler

Smooth jazz, R&B, world music and gospel all in one night!

“I’m a world music artist. I don’t just live in the world of jazz, I live in the world of music, and that is the world I choose to live in.” Jonathan Butler is known to many, but not necessarily for the same genre of music. You may have heard of the young musician who made history by becoming the first black artist played on white South African radio. Perhaps you were a fan in the 1980s with the release of his self- titled album and the Grammy-nominated R&B song Lies. Maybe you are lucky enough to have experienced his inspired gospel music first- hand. But, however you may have heard of him, here is your chance to hear the many sides of Jonathan Butler in one concert!

Born in South Africa during apartheid, Jonathan began his singing career at age 7, releasing his first album, winning the Best New Artist award in South Africa and earning three gold records all before the age of 14. Signing with Jive Records and a move to the UK in the 1980s brought him to the attention of an international audience; his unique genre-busting music received abundant airplay on pop, urban, contemporary jazz and gospel radio.

Joined by the Southampton SDA Inspirational Choir, conducted by Conrad Roach, Jonathan Butler is guaranteed to entertain and uplift. His music has purpose, providing genuine inspiration. He’s living his dream and that is a blessing for us all.
